Valentine's Day Special...

Welcome to Wishful Wednesday. A day dedicated to whatever I (you) wish to write/talk about. Being that today is VALENTINES DAY, I knew I really wanted the topic to be about AMOUR...but I thought some of you might want to shut me off for being so extra cheesy and corny with my stories about my one true love. So, instead I chose a different kind of love story...my love affair with makeup! Duh, are we surprised?

Okay, let's be serious for just a second. I know many of us think Valentines Day is just another holiday to get consumers to waste their money on roses, chocolates and love letters...and...sure it kinda is. But, I can't help it. It's a really cute holiday! I don't necessarily want to go out and celebrate. I don't expect gifts  ( but if you want to buy me one, I won't say no!). For whatever reason, today just feels like a good day! A little extra I love yous, a few extra hugs, never hurt anybody. What once was just a celebration between my husband and I is now a story of a man and his three girls (Mommy, Olivia and Aleena). So we do something special, just us four at home. I bought cute valentines day decorations and I'll probably cut out heart shape sandwiches and bedazzle the inside of Olivia's lunchbox. It makes her feel extra special, what? She is very special, not just today! Daddy will come home with flowers for all of us and I have some fun surprises for dinner and dessert.

By now you're probably wondering what this has to do with makeup. Well, I'll tell ya! Normally, you'll find me in my most comfiest sweatpants and t-shirt, no bra. Yup, that's how I roll when I am home. Screw it, I'm tired...plus the hubs doesn't mind it. I might have a little bit of makeup left over from the morning, maybe. Well, today we (I) will spruce it up, just a little bit. Like maybe I'll throw on my tightest pair of sweatpants with a more form fitting shirt and a bra! Heehee!  Why not, it's valentines day!

I wanted to create a look that would work on anyone, whether your staying in or going out, this look is easy, natural and pretty...just like the holiday. I wanted to create something that would be effortless for my mamas out there. Something you can achieve while still being a busy mom.

When creating a Valentines Day makeup look, I wanted to use more of a soft bronzy tone and pair it with an easy to wear red lip. I'm not trying to do anything over the top because again, we are staying in. Here's how to get the look.

First, I apply my Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer under my eyes. I blend that in using my fingers and take it down to my nose and chin. I don't always wear a foundation and this trick does what I need in the areas I need it.

Then, I move to brows. No surprise here. I reach for my Maybelline Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer and brush my brows up and over, applying two coats.

Next, I move to bronzer. I'm not doing anything complicated here. No contouring anywhere. I grab my R&L Moda Pro Brush in BMX-130 and I use it with my Bobbi Brown Sandstone Bronzing Powder to warm up the parameter of my face and down my neck, bringing it slightly onto my cheekbones.

I grab one of my staple, go-to blush colors. Bobbi Browns Pale Pink. Don't be afraid of this color. It looks much more intimating than it really is. Gives the cheeks a soft pretty pop.

Last thing for the face, I add a little bit of Benefits Dandelion Twinkle Highlighting Powder with my Bobbi Brown Blender Brush. This highlighter is much more subtle than my normal bling when wearing full makeup. Its perfect for the days when I  want something soft and effortless.

Now the eyes...don't be nervous. Let's keep it pretty and simple.
I'm using my Morphe Palette #35R. These don't have names but you can see the colors are marked in the picture below.

First, I grab my Bobbi Brown Eye Sweep Brush for an all over color. Lets call the first color "A". From brow bone down to eyelid I apply "A". Then, I use my Morphe M210 brush to apply color "B' onto my lower lid. Gently pressing it in from my lash line to just under my crease. I take my Morphe M139 brush and blend color "C" into my crease, using a windshield wiper motion to soften everything yet give my crease dimension.

I always curl my lashes! Always! I then apply Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Pencil (always a staple for me) and apply that into my upper waterline, also known as Tightlining, to fill in gaps and give the illusion of a thicker, fuller eyelashes This step is something I do daily. I skip eyeliner altogether because this technique is just enough for me. Finally, grab your favorite mascara. At the moment my favorite is Maybelline Lash Sensational in Very Black. I wiggle that into the base of my lashes and work up, adding a second coat for more volume.

Now, lips! Honestly to each it's own here. If you want a full coverage lipstick then grab something like MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Fashion Legacy. If you want something easier and subtle, grab a gloss, maybe something like YSL Gloss Volupte in #207. I like something in between. If I was going out, I'd probably grab the MAC because I know its full coverage and long-lasting. But, tonight I'm home. I have on Chanel Jumbo Long-wear Lip Crayon in No. 12 Carmin. I will say...this definitely isn't a long-wear, which is just fine for my look this evening. It's all coming off after dinner anyways!

There it is, an easy, pretty Valentines Day makeup for just about anyone. Share your Valentines Day look with me on my Instagram page. Tag me @faithhopeandlipstick

Always remember, makeup is just for fun. Whether you chose to wear it or not, is entirely up to you. It doesn't define you. Wear it...full coverage or no coverage. Always be confident!
